This painting is inspired by the Belgian artist Paul Gosselin. I have incorporated my own style and painting techniques to make it more personal and my own.
My favourite part of the painting is the dog when one looks closely you will see the fine detail that I have created with a thin brush and very gentle brushwork. The same detail that is evident in the dog is also seen in the two women with their umbrellas. They become the focus point of the painting due to the contrast that is created between the fine detail and brushwork of the woman versus the rough and thick brushwork that is used through the rest of the painting. I’ve blended the sky using my finger. I wanted to create a smooth looking sky, but I still wanted that richness of colour without evident brushwork. In the background there is abstract human figures that is created with a darker colour that is in contrast with the two women dressed in white. The rest of the painting consists of strong and vibrant colours that creates a cheerful and content atmosphere.
