This painting is very close to my heart. It was an intense process completing this art piece. The art piece is inspired by a photograph taken by a friend. What draw me to the photograph was the vibrant colours of the ceramic pot. I had the desire to paint it the moment I saw the photograph.
The pot and the hands were my main focus. I want it to be perfect and detailed. The fingers are sharply defined. Along with the pot it creates the focus point of the artwork. The ceramic pot has a glossy and shiny texture. Painting the ceramic pot was quite a challenge. I wanted it look like a real ceramic pot. I used a mixture of linseed oil and paint to create a thick and glossy media. I used the drip technique to create the wood-like texture in die background. The drip technique is a technique where I mix the oil paint with linseed oil and other mixing mediums and pouring the mixture on to the canvas. The mixture drips off the canvas creating lines and loops. I only added darker shades of brown and white to make the wood look more realistic. The bright turquoise, shades of blue and green used in the pot lifts up the painting and I am sure that it will also lift up the space where it will be hanging
