The headless woman is one of my first art pieces. It is based on an iron sculpture that was standing next to the road. She was standing alone and there was something extremely beautiful about her imperfect body. Maybe because we as woman will always feel a bit imperfect on some ways as well. I’ve made use of the matter painting technique where I’ve used thick impasto paint and mixing it into plastic fake sand (not real sand that one will get outside).
I’ve used a sand-like texture to create the body. Applying layers of acrylic paint over the sandy texture. The sand-like texture adds to the earthy colours that I’ve used to paint the art piece. Symbolizing that we are all part of nature and earth. And that our bodies are naturally and perfectly formed. The background consists of smooth brushstrokes placing the body in die foreground.
